Now you change everything and I can’t even log in using my same info anymore Login was Arina Password you should have in your records I get the invaild when I enter what I had and I know I am not the one that forgot what it was. Plus I don’t see the recent stories that were posted I wish you would go back to the old style and quit trying to copy so many other sites I like different not the same look and feel every place I go.

From the message it looks like one of the server hard drives is failing, this can happen so they will be back up soon.

  6. Calm down younguns! The site had a server harrd drive failure. This page is just a place marker until they get the server fixed. You wil be able to log in and do all the things you could before. Nothing has changed except a piece of equipment failed.

Will our old Login and handles work, or will we have to change them like for this forum to keep up-to-date with the story site BigCloset?

  8. Tnx for the update piper and everyone else working with her. I hope ya guys get it fixed soon I understand it can take time an that it’s not a simple matter or removing n putting new in. Also those that are complaining just read what it says that this is a TEMPORARY page just to keep us updated.

I hope things are moving along for you on all the new stuff. Someone let the gremlins loose again. Did you remember not to feed them after midnight, they always like to cause troubles at that time. 🙂

Sonai67: If they backed up the site properly, as I do expect they did, once the new hard drive is in place and set up the site should return exactly as it was when it went down…

I just want to thank you all for working so hard to maintain this site. Please get some sleep tonight whether you get it running or not. 🙂

As mentioned in a blog several days ago, Big Closet had a hard drive which was failing.

It was explained that there would be a number of hours involved in saving all the stories, coordinating with the people who host the equipment and all the sites involved, replacement of the hard drive, format of the hard drive, setup of the programs which made Big Closet – well, Big Closet, and then reinstating all the stories to the new drive.

There is so much use that Big Closet seems to lose a hard drive roughly every ten months, or so I think I have noted. That is the reason there is a donation fund for a new server. It’s an effort to try to come up with better equipment which will help reduce the number of down times. ( my own thoughts here and not something that the Big Closet team have said.) Donations not just to the hatbox (day to day operating fund from which the hosting agency and others are paid ie day to day bills) but to the server fund are IMPORTANT.

    My two cents.

  15. Seems like the hard drive change is taking longer than expected. Hope all is going well. To the team working on this – Thanks! Definitely appreciate your efforts.

Erin, Piper and the rest of the team will are working hard to get Big Closet back online ASAP. Please keep in mind folks that proper backups, getting the new hard drive set up and all the up-to-date stories and other information transferred to that new drive takes time and a lot of work. Let’ be patient and rather than wondering when the site will be back, look forward to when it is.

Everyone please understand. Hard drives DO fail and it takes time to replace them and all the programming that goes into them to make them work. Erin, Piper and everyone else who helps admin Top Shelf are working very hard, without pay, I should add, to get everything up and running again.

Patience is a virtue. Be virtuous, everybody… and thank Erin and everybody else for all their hard work.

  18. Thank you for all the hard work you put in on this site, and thank you to all the great authors that post their stories. I have seen some good story sites disappear or stop being updated over the years and am saddened each time this happens.

Again thank you for your hard work and dedication xxx

  19. Still down huh

  20. No, the site is up. Your DNS might be cached, and getting old information. Please check or and see if that helps.

Once upon a time, in the cold frozen depths of winter, while the winds were blowing and the snow laid heavy on the ground, there was a great catastrophe that befell the web – BC was down! Who knows what great evil befell the mighty Big Closet?

    dun dun dun!

Stay tuned for part 2, where our intrepid band of network and software engineers brave the tech frontier of the internet to try to revive the Big Closet site, and restore her to her previous majestic glory!

  31. I’m sorry for the site being down but I understand these things happen. Thanks for the wonderful entertainment you do provide free of charge to the many of us who read here regularly. It is a labor of love on your part.
As for the ones who are wining about the site being down, pay some to the cause and accept that these ladies are doing a tremendous job with little gain.

All of you Addicts should hop over to Amazon and pick up some TG fiction for your Kindle (or Kindle app for PC, iOS, or Android). Some of your favorite authors here at BC (K. T. Leone, Karin Bishop, nancy Cole, etc.) have lots of stories available. It may help you to retain what’s left of your sanity.

  33. geekydee on February 16, 2014 at 12:39 am said:

What Jessica said 🙂 Erin, do you happen to have that link handy that nets BC a slice of the action? Every little bit helps. Thank you,

may i ask how long it will be down or whats going on with it

  35. For the latest outage, click on the blog link, and the information will be on that page. This is just a general placeholder page for all BC outages.

(For example, the downtime related to this post is due to a corrupt database resulting from hardware failure.)

Just yesterday morning was walking on sand at the beach enjoying the ocean….then drove on clear dry roads with exposed grass everywhere ….then suddenly SLAMMED with a snowstorm yesterday on Cape Cod !!! Trapped in the house because they don’t have any idea what to do with snow around here (they close the schools when there are 2 inches on the ground) and it takes AGES to clear the roads , I go on the internet to feel better and read some amazing stories on Big Closet and what do I get…..THIS page !! Whoh is me, what am I now to do? At least if I had a man here with me I could think of ways of passing the time but I’m ALLLLLL alone….no man, no Big Closet. Well I guess I could ……perish the thought….read the old fashioned way and actually go to my library and get ……wait I’ve forgotten ,what’s it called? …oh yesss a BOOK.

BIG CLOSET PLEASE COME BACK TO ME !!! I need you, I want you, can’t live without you…..(hummm this could be the start of fabulous lyrics to a song…)

  37. I have tried to be very patient about the server going down but it has been this way for about 3 maybe four days now and it is getting tiresome seeing that we are still waiting I respect that one of the other sites that share the server could have knocked this offline but this long it makes me feel as if nothing is being done I know I don’t contribute any money to the cat but I do contribute to the authors that have ebooks out there as I have bought a few when I had recieved gift cards to use to get there stories in ebook form even if I have read it here on the site. So I would like it if you can get the site up and running again as soon as possible please.

  38. The site is being worked on as much as is humanly possible. We had a huge data failure and it takes time to fix things.

  39. Appreciate all the work Erin and team are putting into this and of course put into it even when things are working well.

  40. Thanks to the entire BCTS crew for all your hard work! You are all appreciated =)

  41. When I finaly decide to get back onto the website after months of inoring it, its down. I hope its back up soon.

Lots of hugs for our BC Tech Team!!! You are awesome!

As soon as I get paid this week, I’ll chip in what I can.

Please don’t unnecessarily rush. I, like several others, would much rather have BC up and running like a 24 jewel swiss watch, than just having it back as soon as possible.

  43. Lisa Smith on February 17, 2014 at 8:36 am said:

Thanks for your hard work. A donation will be on its way soon! I realize that you don’t have to do this and I appreciate it!

  44. As a former IT manager and member of a UK IT regional planning group I can appreciate both the amount of work required and the shoestring budget with which Erin Piper and the team have to manage. Stick with it guys and gals we all await the results of your labours but we know Data base salvager can be a case of “how long is a piece of string” when it comes to timescales.
So as another BC addict hugs and best wishes to an overworked and on occasions definitely under appreciated team.

“Quantum Strings” are somewhere about 10-to-the-power-negative-24 (10**-24) meters long.

  46. I am sorry you are having so much trouble. God bless you.

  47. Keep up the good work guys, I know its hard work rebuilding Databases when they bonk out like that, I’ve never had to do recover a database like that, but I’ve heard of the problems it is.

*Hugs* Looking forward to when it is back up, but take your time 🙂

  48. I feel for you Erin, I have been there with corrupted data bases and it is not fun. A big hug and hope it all works out OK

  49. As a relative new comer, I really appreciate the quality of this site. Wonderful! Thanks for what you’ve created!

Remember that haste might make waste. Take the time to do the repairs right.

    Best wishes with this problem.
