One of the longest steps in this whole process is one known as “Rebuild Permissions”. ¬†The BIGGEST issue with it was it seemed DESTINED to fail while the “WALL” was up, so to do it properly, we felt the need to take-down the wall and start letting people in.

Untill the permissions database is fully built, you will notice some stuff missing. Some OLDER stories will show up on the front page with new dates. Same with comments and such. But it IS being worked on.

The three of us pulled a Marathon 2/3 days getting this done, bulldozing every roadblock we ran into at full speed, and then rebuilding using the pieces left behind at each step.

I will post again here, and on BigCloset itself when it seems to be finished with it’s permission rebuild. and hopefully we can finish the lengthy process of fixing any lingering errors.

We are on the down-hill run at this point. I’m actually hoping to get some sleep tonite! ūüôā

Not all the new features will be available at the launch, but the site should be back shortly ūüôā

We’re still hard at work behind the scenes. I managed to grab about 3 hours sleep (not three hours straight through, but basically 3 hours where I blacked out enough that I’m going to call it sleep).

Things are progressing on the database and we are working on other issues as well right now simultaneously.

We are aiming for mid-day west-coast (USA) time for the site to come back online, and while it could be sooner, I want to warn everyone that it very easily could take longer depending on how everything goes.

Right now, we aren’t anticipating any issues that will cause major delays.

Hi Everyone! Quick Note!

I’m on my way up to the datacenter, to install some new equipment.

Part of the Equipment Package I’m delivering includes Infrastructure improvements, namely new network cabling.

While the downtime should not be noticeable, less than 30 secs at a time, you may have periods where The site is shown as offline, or the database offline, or everything may LOOK fine, but because the slave database server is offline, you get a 404 error when you click on a story.

The outages should be less than 30 secs at a time, and the whole process shouldn’t take me very long at all, so please bear with us!

We are currently experiencing issues with the server again. We are steadfastly working to correct the situation. We will try and keep you updated as things progress.

UPDATE: It is hardware failure having corrupted the database, we’re trying to bring things back up without losing anything. Gifts to the Hatbox or the BC Hardware fund to help us out can be sent via Paypal to Joyce at Thanks.

SHORT UPDATE:¬†BC has a gigantic database, we’ve been able to read the failed drive but the info is not in the form of a database anymore. It got scrambled, to put it in simple terms. What we’ve been doing for the last many hours is reassembling the database. We had hoped to be done by this evening but it may take a bit longer.

MORNING UPDATE: Just so everyone knows, we are making progress. ūüôā

MONDAY UPDATE: We’ve made considerable progress in restoring the story database and now need to get the other parts of the data in order. Then final testings and probably some adjustments. No timeline at the moment, but soon is something that can be hoped for and looked forward to.¬†Thanks to everyone who has contributed, that will help enormously in making plans to see this sort of thing does not happen again.

TUESDAY UPDATE: We’ve got the site up and running with most stories recovered (not publicly available, sorry), but lots of stuff still needs to be done. The internal links, kudos, read counts, private messages and a number of other things still need to be recovered and we seem to be missing a few stories so we are still working on this. Hope to have another update later today. — Joyce

TUESDAY EVENING: We’ve got the site 98% recovered, we just have to get some details done so that all the stories are accessible. Tomorrow sometime is beginning to look more than just possible.

WEDNESDAY EVENING: More progress. Fixing the little niggling problems. We do hope to have the site up tomorrow. ūüôā

THURSDAY MORNING: Here is a tease to keep you going.

Here’s an Amazon Shopping Link for those that asked for that:¬†TG Fiction at Amazon US

Transgender Ficiton on Amazon UK

But remember, we won’t get the commission on shopping until April. I wish I could put up the Hatbox Amazon buttons here but they won’t work without the BigCloset site to return to, it would end up flagging the account.

So the best way to donate to help us out is to use PayPal at the moment. My account there is Joyce @

Hi, I know it’s been a few months since I posted here, but things are and have been, moving forward.

We are currently expanding this blog to include several pages of information that we feel would be helpful to authors. These pages will include information on various school systems in various countries with¬†explanatory¬†information to help those authors that are writing about areas they don’t have much¬†experience¬†with.

We are also working to add Forums to this site, in a way that won’t compromise it’s current lack of spam, and at the same time, give users/authors/readers the ability to ask questions.

As for general site info, we have begun work on an eFiction and Drupal ePub export module that will allow you to download your favorite stories in ePub ebook format (Compatible with Kindle, Nook, iPad, iPhone, MobiPocket, etc) with a single click. This module will go into play first @ TGFiction.Net, then LGTales, then the code will be released to the public once we are happy with it’s performance.

LG Tales is still suffering with “bridge” issues, but we are working on a solution that we hope to have running soon.

TGF is picking up slightly as one of our favorite authors has decided to rejoin our ranks, and is being very generous with her posting.

Please authors, post your stories to TGFiction.Net! If you have any problems, send us an email using the “Contact Us” links located all over the site, or leave a comment on this blog. We will do everything we can to help!

Well, before we get down to the updates at other sites, I thought I’d let everyone know, that¬†LG Tales is OPEN!

Well, it’s BETA Open.

What this means is that we are allowing user sign ups, and story posting, and have begun importing our list of stories and authors that we already have permission to post.

What this also means is that what you see now, may not be what you see in a month, or even a week, or even a few days.

Things change fast. We find issues, or figure out how to make something better, and we fix it/change it.

It’s a lot of work to build a new fiction community, and we are trying to use our experiances from other sites to build tight knit niche community for those that only want to read the more innocent, mostly G rated stories as opposed to the X rated fiction that seems to have started dominating many fiction sites.

We have nothing against the more adult fiction sites, in fact, we applaud them for everything they do, heck,¬†we even run one! But we decided there was a need for a different kind of place for people that didn’t have to worry about a story being correctly tagged with the right rating.

Now, this is not to say that there will never be stories with some more adult situations on LGT. We are mostly trying to weed out the one-handed-kink that to many of us, is like SPAM.

Now for the more mundane updates…

Due to the fact that one of the authors @¬†TGF seemed to be gathering a fair amount of spam comments on one of his stories, we took a day or so out of¬†LGT development, and integrated an automagic spam filter into the comment system @¬†TGF. This new system shouldn’t look ANY different to normal users, and what it does is this. Every time you submit a review,¬†TGF sends a copy of the review, along with your IP address and browser information to¬†AKISMET.¬†AKISMET then takes the information, compares it to their database of known spam, and does it’s best to tag it as SPAM or not. If it comes back as spam, the poster is notified, and the comment is stored but NOT shown. The next step in the process is for an Administrator to check the postings marked as “SPAM” and verify their status.

This system was implemented using¬†AKISMET and the¬†AKISMET PHP 5 class by Alex. The next revision of our system will allow Authors to tag reviews as spam, just in case the¬†AKISMET system misses one, but we are still working on a system to make sure that an author can’t exploit the system by marking all comments they don’t like as spam.

As of right now, this system is only implemented on¬†TGF but it will be moved to¬†LGT as soon as it’s fully finished. We will also be releasing this mod back to the¬†eFiction community.

Now just so you know I haven’t forgotten, HUGGLEBUGS is on our list of things to do. It IS important to us, we just seem to be really busy lately.

Oh, and in case you didn’t know, you can now follow The StoryPortal Fiction Network (¬†SPFN ) on¬†Twitter (¬† ). Not only will you get news updates from this site, but you will get STORY UPDATES from¬†LG Tales and¬†TGFiction.Net and even HuggleBugs.Net when it’s back online!
